The schedule of events for the 2008 Iron Heritage Festival (IHF) in Danville:

Wednesday, July 16

6 p.m. — Heritage Classic golf event and picnic, at the Grove at former St. Cyril Academy.

8:30 p.m. — Cemetery tours by lantern light, Fairview Cemetery.


Thursday, July 17

1 p.m. — Bus tour, “Tour of Iron,” by Sis Hause;” ticket needed; starting at Hawkins showroom.

7 p.m. — IHF Parade, followed by free polka party with Stanky and the Coal Miners, Cole’s parking lot (bring lawn chair).

8:30 p.m. — Cemetery tours by lantern light, Fairview Cemetery.

Friday, July 18

Noon to 7 p.m. — Montgomery House museum open, featuring firefighting artifacts.

1 p.m. — Punch and Judy performing at Canal Park stage.

1 p.m. — Bus tour, “Tour of Iron,” by Sis Hause;” ticket needed; starting at Hawkins showroom.

2 p.m. — Woody Wolfe performing at Canal Park stage.

3 p.m. — Punch and Judy performing at Canal Park stage.

4 p.m. — Fourth annual meeting of the Watch Box Board with Rich Pawling, Watch Box Park.

5 p.m. — Charlie McDowell and Rita McKelvey performing at Canal Park stage.

6 to 8 p.m. — Reading Co. Technical and Historical Society displays its miniature Reading Railroad from Philadelphia to the coal region and from Harrisburg to Allentown, Danville Area Middle School gym.

6 p.m. — Gene Shipe conducting a program at the Franklin Furnace.

6 p.m. — Cemetery tour at Fairview Cemetery.

6 to 8 p.m. — Tethered hot-air balloon rides, F.Q. Hartman Field, (wind and weather permitting).

6 p.m. — Raven Creek performing at Canal Park stage.

7 p.m. — Echoing Heart performing at Canal Park stage.

7 p.m. — John Decker speaking on the Montour railroads, Hawkin’s showroom.

8 to 11 p.m. — Fireman’s Ball at Washies Fire Company, with Burgess, Mitchell and Seal; all are invited; casual dress; ticket price includes light finger food; cash bar.

8:30 p.m. — Mine hike, starting at Sunny Brook Park.

Saturday, July 19

(Rest stations, water and rest rooms available all day, Pine Street Lutheran Church, 407 Pine St.)

7:45 a.m. — Registration begins at Danville Area Middle School for 5K race on Danville’s Rail to Trails bike trail.

9 a.m. — Mill Street opens with strolling musicians, street entertainers, food, etc.

All day — View smelting of iron ore at Danville Area Middle School; visit around town with storyteller Pennsylvania Jack; artisan encampment at Danville Area Middle School, demonstrating skills of the past such as blacksmithing, sheep-to-shawl, rope-making and more.

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Montgomery House open house with firefighting artifacts display.

10 a.m. — Rusty Foulke performing on Canal Park stage.

10 a.m. — “Antique Market” opens at Danville ballroom featuring demonstrations of tatting by Mary Paulhamus, and displays and demonstrations of “when sewing was an art,” by Becky Ermisch.

10 a.m. — Barbershop quartet performs at Mill Street stage.

10 a.m. – Quoits tournament sponsored by the U.S. Quoit Association, Danville Area Middle School track.

10 a.m. to noon — Commemorative postmark celebrating 10 years of the Iron Heritage Festival; in front of post office; bring own envelope.

10 a.m. — Outhouse dig, rear of 203 Mill St.

10 a.m. — Au Matin, St. Cyril Basilica.

10 a.m. — Train To Bloomsburg and back, $10, “Big Mill Station” (Danville Area Middle School).

10 a.m. — Cake walk, Pine Street Lutheran Church, 407 Pine St.

10 a.m. — Rich Pawling presentation on “Canawling,” Danville Moose social room.

10 a.m. — Mine hike at Sunny Brook Park.

10 a.m. — Gene Shipe presenting program at Franklin Furnace and Cider Press.

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Carriage rides.

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Jankola Library, St. Cyril’s Basilica.

11 a.m. — Montour Railroads program by John Decker, Hawkin’s showroom.

11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. — Punch and Judy Marionette show, St. Joe’s School.

Noon — Jim Haner, “Banjo Man,” performance, Canal Park stage.

Noon — IHF auction, Mill Street and Mulberry, bidding on collectible Danville area items.

Noon — Generations of the Moose and Danville Area School District alumni, Moose social room, all day.

Noon — Motorized fire apparatus from past century, presented by Harvey Eckart, Studio Brick.

Noon and 2 p.m. — Coburn Brass performing music of the Civil War and 19th Century with the DMS Artisans.

12:30 p.m. — Train to Northumberland and back, $10, “Big Mill Station” (Danville Area Middle School).

1 p.m. — Penn Dixie Jazz Band performance, Mill Street stage.

1 p.m. — “Fire In the Hole” program with Van Wagner, Powder Mill Road. Program will discuss how black powder was made and may include a demonstration blast.

1 p.m. — Mid-Penn Harmonica Club performance, Canal Park stage.

2 p.m. — Hot dog eating contest, Pappas’ Restaurant.

2 p.m. — Performance by Rich Pawling, Canal Park stage.

2 p.m. — Hooley Boys performance, Mill Street stage.

2 p.m. — “Life of William Montgomery,” by William Baille, Studio Brick.

2:30 p.m. — Train to Bloomsburg and back, $10, “Big Mill Station” (Danville Area Middle School).

3 p.m. — Victorian tea in solarium of Grove Mansion; limited seating.

5, 6:30 and 8 p.m. — Visit “Morgan’s Tavern” with Larry Mordan, 303 Mill St.

6 p.m. — Echoing Hearts performance, Canal Park stage.

6 p.m. — West Branch Chorus performance, Mill Street stage.

7 p.m. — Sadie Green Sales Jug Band performance, Mill Street stage.

7 p.m. — Inaugural fiddle contest, Danville Area Middle School auditorium.

10 p.m. — Fireworks on the river.

Sunday, July 20

Starting at 8 a.m. — Father’s Day Fly-In at Danville/Riverside Airport. Airplane and helicopter rides available; antique car and tractor show; breakfast and lunch available.

10 a.m. and 1 p.m. — Vintage church service, Pine Street Evangelical Lutheran Church, 407 Pine St.

2 p.m. — N.Y. Mutual Heritage baseball team back to take on team of local baseball players, Hess Field.

6:30 p.m. — Hymn sing, Water Street Park.
