n MOUNT CARMEL — Charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal conspiracy, criminal use of a communication facility, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia were ordered bound to court July 10 by Magisterial District Judge Michael F. Mychak against Timothy J. Spencer, 21, of 401 Walnut St., Ashland.
He was ordered to appear for arraignment Aug. 6 at Northumberland County Courthouse.
Spencer was charged by Mount Carmel Sgt. Todd Owens following an alleged controlled drug purchase May 29.
n SUNBURY — Vincent J. Guarna, 50, of 443 Wilburton Road, Mount Carmel, pleaded guilty June 18 to a summary offense of unlawful conduct and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge Robert Bolton to pay a fine and costs totaling $221.
Two additional misdemeanor counts of unlawful conduct were withdrawn.
The case was sent to Bolton after Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III recused himself due to a conflict of interest.
Guarna, president of Fox Coal Co. in Coal Township, was charged with violations of the Pennsylvania Solid Waste Management Act in December by Senior Special Agent Barry J. Moran of the state Attorney General’s Office.
He was accused of allowing construction and demolition waste to be dumped on a mountain property off Route 61 in the east end of Coal Township between March 20 and Oct. 4, 2007.
The defendant flatly denied the claims at the time the charges were filed and told authorities he believed someone he employed part-time may have used a front-end loader to cover the wood and demolition waste.
The attorney general’s office agreed to reduce the offense to a summary and withdraw the remaining two counts upon further investigation.
n SHAMOKIN — Justin M. Socko, 23, of 826 Hemlock St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty Tuesday to open lewdness and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay a fine and costs totaling $443.
Additional charges of loitering and prowling at night, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness were withdrawn.
Socko was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Jarrod Scandle with yelling obscenities while walking naked around the 400 block of North Rock Street and 500 block of North Franklin Street on June 23.
n SHAMOKIN — Nancy A. Coleman, 47, of 709 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township, waived to court Tuesday charges of possession with intent to deliver Oxycontin, delivery of Oxycontin and criminal use of a communication facility and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to appear for arraignment Sept. 3 at Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury.
Coleman was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Edward Purcell in connection with a July 19, 2007, incident at Chestnut and Second streets.
n SHAMOKIN — Jason A. Michael, 27, of 80 E. Dewart St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty Tuesday to harassment and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay a $100 fine plus costs.
An additional charge of simple assault was withdrawn.
Michael was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Nathan Rhodes with picking up his live-in-girlfriend, Bambi Jones, and throwing her to the ground at their home at 3 a.m. Friday. Police said Jones suffered cuts on her hands and knees during the assault.
n SHAMOKIN — Shawn McBride, 29, of 1027 E. Race St., Coal Township, pleaded guilty Tuesday to harassment and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay a fine and costs totaling $437.
An additional charge of simple assault was withdrawn.
McBride was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Edward Purcell with assaulting his girlfriend, Juanita Howerter, 28, of Coal Township, at his residence on May 25.
n SHAMOKIN — Jason Degreen, 31, of 543 Main St., Ranshaw, waived to court Tuesday charges of simple assault and harassment and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to appear for arraignment Sept. 3 at Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury.
Degreen is charged by Coal Township Deputy Chief Henry Schrader with assaulting his live-in girlfriend, Lynn Maurer, 40, at their residence May 23.
n SHAMOKIN — Damien M. Cerklewski, 32, of 628 W. Gowen St., Shamokin, waived to court Tuesday charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia.
He is charged by Shamokin Patrolman Shane Mowery with possessing four individually-wrapped bags of marijuana, four suboxine pills, three morphine sulfate pills and one Valium pill, and a variety of smoking pipes on May 4 at his residence.
n SHAMOKIN — Barbara R. Somers, 29, of 103 S. Poplar St., Coal Township, waived to court a retail theft charge Tuesday and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to appear for arraignment Sept. 3 at Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury.
Somers was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Scott Weaver with stealing a portable swimming pool from Rite Aid Pharmacy in downtown Shamokin on June 11.
n SHAMOKIN — Kenny Bunch, 25, of 614 N. Franklin St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty Tuesday to criminal mischief and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay a $200 fine plus costs and make restitution in the amount of $200.
Additional charges of criminal trespass, harassment and simple assault were withdrawn.
Bunch was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Jarrod Scandle with assaulting his former girlfriend, Lana Gilger, of 428 W. Spruce St., Shamokin, on June 11 at Gilger’s residence.
He was ordered to appear for arraignment Aug. 6 at Northumberland County Courthouse.
