Service Key Award at BU


BLOOMSBURG — James F. D’Amico, of Mount Carmel, was recently awarded the Service Key from Bloomsburg University for outstanding service to the college community.

D’Amico graduated cum laude on May 10 with a major in elementary education. In addition, he was a dean’s list student and a member of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in education.

He is also a member of the Association for Childhood Education International and the Association for Supervision of Curriculum and Development.

He was awarded the Frances Cerchiaro Abitanta Scholarship, which is given to an elementary education major with high academic standing who is involved in community and extracurricular activities.


He was president and chairman of the executive board of the Student Pennsylvania State Education Association at Bloomsburg. He has been a delegate to two state conferences and participated in “Outreach to Teach.” He received the Community Service Award from the Student Pennsylvania State Education Association.

He was appointed by Gov. Edward G. Rendell to the Council of Trustees at Bloomsburg University. As a trustee, he served on the executive and student life committees and took part in finding the new president of the university, Dr. David Soltz.

As a senior in the Community Government Association (CGA), D’Amico served on the executive committee, finance committee, food service committee, and the parking/transportation committee. He was named “Senator of the Semester,” and received the John J. Trathen Award, which is a student-leadership scholarship for an outstanding CGA senator.

D’Amico was employed with Quest as a web manager and was a registration coordinator for Eco-Quest since his freshman year. He participated in Freshmen Leadership Experience and Project WILD.

D’Amico is a 2004 graduate of Mount Carmel Area Junior-Senior High School and an Eagle Scout. He is a son of Joseph and Carol D’Amico, and a grandson of Joseph and Jane D’Amico of Atlas.
