Attends leadership forum on medicine

PHILADELPHIA — Michelle Roberts, a daughter of John and Sue Roberts, of Numidia, participated in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine (NYLF/MED) from July 6 to 15.

NYLF/MED introduced students to a variety of concepts in public health, medical ethics, research and general practice and included site visits to medical facilities and clinics, engaging them in a simulation using problem-based learning to develop a treatment plan for a patient.

The NYLF/MED creates a virtual classroom with hospitals, clinical facilities and health care professionals. By shadowing key personnel, the students had the opportunity to gain a behind-the-scenes perspective on a medical career. In addition to visiting cutting-edge medical schools and clinical facilities, students engaged in personal contact with physicians, surgeons, researchers, scientists and medical educators as they watched the health professionals at work.

Roberts was also recognized by the United States Achievement Academy for academic achievement as a National Honor Student award winner and will appear in the academy’s official yearbook. The standards for selection include academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability and recommendation from a qualified sponsor.

Michael Johnston, English teacher at Southern Columbia Area High School, nominated Roberts.

Roberts will be a junior at Southern Columbia this fall. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has a cumulative academic average of 98.3 percent. She is also a member of the girl’s varsity soccer team and the Sparks of the Five-County Soccer Club. She is employed at Ponduce Farm Market and Rohrbach’s Farm Market.

" Hi, I've just received a letter from Shashin Doshi for this scholar program. I was just wondering, is this a scam ? I believed that i'm not qualified for this program since i earned two C's in my freshmen year. Their requirement was to earn a 'B+' or above. So, is this a scam ?? "
