Fisher’s Boston Seafood Restaurant changes hands from father to son

SHAMOKIN — Fisher’s Boston Seafood Restaurant, 401 N. Shamokin St., has a new owner, but the owner is not new to the business.

Kevin Fisher purchased the restaurant from his father, John, who has run the place since 1989. Kevin has been helping in his father’s restaurant since the sixth grade.

“He started with me when he was 12,” John said.

“I know the business inside and out,” Kevin added.

Kevin marks the third generation in the Fisher family to run a restaurant.

John’s father, John Sr., owned and operated the R Restaurant.

“My dad ran a fantastic restaurant,” said John, who worked in his father’s establishment from a young age and turned that education into his own successful business in 1989 when he opened Fisher’s Boston Seafood, formerly at 325 N. Shamokin St. He moved the restaurant to its current location in 1999.

Kevin graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School in 1995, and studied culinary arts at Northumberland County Area Vocational-Technical School. In 1997, he graduated from the Culinary Institute of America.

In honor of the new ownership, Fisher’s offers an updated menu. Favorites such as fried haddock, deviled crab and perogies are listed with newer items such as pizza, hot wings and cheese fries. Patrons can also enjoy classic meals such as liver and onions, meatloaf, and stuffed shells.

Fisher’s is also open for breakfast.

The menu is just the first of several changes Kevin has in mind for the next few years.

“I have plans for new atmosphere and decorations,” he said. “But you have to crawl before you walk.”

Fisher’s also caters.

“You wanna throw a party, we’ll do it,” John said candidly. Fisher’s can fit 95 people in the restaurant, and is available to cater parties at other sites.

John, who will continue working at Fisher’s, said he’s ready to pass the torch.

“I’m looking forward to working my way out of it and turning it over to him,” he said.

Fisher’s Boston Seafood Restaurant is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Fisher’s also offers free delivery.
