MOUNT CARMEL — During its meeting Thursday, Mount Carmel Area School Board approved Pennsylvania Treatment and Healing as the treatment facility for students at a rate of $44.29 per day for the Bloomsburg location and $45.96 per day for the Milton location.

The board also approved the purchase of an air conditioning unit for the computer-server room at the high school to replace the existing 12-year-old unit at an approximate cost of $3,000.

PPL/McClure was granted permission to install a pool heater with money received through the Energy Harvest Grant and also was approved to replace a domestic water heater at the elementary school at a cost of $36,655.

Director Rose Marquardt announced that Mount Carmel Area Education Foundation will sell T-shirts commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Silver Bowl at the Mount Carmel Area-Selinsgrove football game on Friday, Aug. 29.

Fireworks in Elysburg on Aug. 2

ELYSBURG — A fireworks display will be held on the grounds of the Valley Gun and Country Club off Route 487 in Elysburg on Saturday, Aug 2.

The show is being provided by Robert Deitz, a pyrotechnist from Snydertown and Fireworks Productions Inc., Maryland. The display will begin at dusk, and the public is invited to attend. There is no charge for this event but donations will be greatly appreciated.

Farm bureau policy meetings

Craig Richard, governmental relations chairman and policy development chairman, Northumberland County Farm Bureau, has planned three policy development meetings to discuss what changes local farmers want made in state Farm Bureau policies.

Meetings will be held Monday, July 28, at Alvin Shaffer Farm, Dalmatia RD 1, 758-3042; Tuesday, July 29, at Craig Richard Farm, 213 Richards Road, Elysburg, 672-3245; and Wednesday, July 30, at Bob Pardoe Farm, 346 Covered Bridge Road, Milton, 524-7625. Meetings will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night.

This is how regular members can harness the Farm Bureau’s energy and influence to tackle issues of concern to agricultural and rural living.
