Annual Ned Smith Festival slated Friday and Saturday

MILLERSBURG —The Ned Smith Center for nature and arts will host its 15th annual festival at the center and at MYO Park in Millersburg, along the scenic Susquehanna River this Friday evening and Saturday.
Don Helin, Festival Committee chairman, along with John D. Laskowski, program chairman, invite the public to enjoy the many activities.
Ned Smith was a self-trained artist, writer and naturalist who created countless wildlife paintings and drawings.
Friday evening activities begin at 6 o’clock with the Down to Earth Band, and Helin and Laskowski, along with Dauphin County Commissioner Jeff Haste, offer a welcoming tribute at 6:45. Music continues throughout the evening.
Saturday events will go from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A shuttle van will carry passengers from The Ned Smith Center to the MYO Park and downtown Millersburg every half-hour. The Ned Smith Center gift shop will have extended hours, and the Olwewine Gallery will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
At the MYO Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be youth activities including Fish Print T-shirts by the PA Fish and Boat Commission and Joette Deppen / Millersburg Forest Tall Cedar Clowns (11 a.m. to noon only); Animal Tracks by Jackie Lucas of the Northumberland County Conservation District.
Various environmental and animal exhibits and demonstrations take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Along the Susquehanna River Bank, retriever dog training and field obedience demonstrations take place at 9 and 10 a.m. and 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Other activities include instruction on using a compast, the Smart Angler Program on Fishing and youth turkey calling.
At The Millersburg Gun and Conservation Club building there will be fly-tying class with Bobby Clouser, another Bass Pro Shop staffer.
Other activites include dog competitions (visit www.mad-dogs.us for more information), a vendor exhibitor area on roaming troubadour and ongoing exhibits on birds of prey.
