DANVILLE — Borough police are still investigating the second suspect in a botched jewelry heist at a downtown store on July 14, according to a police spokesperson.
Eric J. Smith, 38, of Philadelphia, was arrested July 14 after a brief footchase that included Montour County District Attorney Robert Buehner, who helped stop the alleged thief with his car.
Smith and his unidentified cohort walked into Ryan’s Jewelers on Mill Street, sprayed three women with pepper spray, Tasered two of them and bound one of the women with duct tape before collecting more than $160,000. But the robbery was foiled when Danville Patrolman Gerard J. Zeidler Jr. showed up at the scene.
Both Smith and the woman took off through the back door.
Police described the unidentified black female as having short black hair and wearing dark glasses, silver dress slacks and a ladies’ suit jacket.
