Tri-county photo contest under way for visitors bureau

LEWISBURG — Shutterbugs in Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties are encouraged to channel their inner Ansel Adams and show the local visitors bureau what the tri-county area means to them.

The Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureau is kicking off “Every Turn a Treasure,” a photo contest running from Aug. 1 through Jan. 1, 2009.

“We’re always looking for fresh images that capture the unique spirit of the Susquehanna River valley,” Lisa Leighton, marketing director, Susquehanna River Valley, said. “So, we’re asking locals and visitors to share their images with us — family picnics, kids on the rides at Knoebels, visiting a heritage museum for the first time, enjoying the food at a local festival — those are all the kinds of images we’re looking for.”

The theme of the photo contest is “Every Turn a Treasure” — entrants are encouraged to capture what “every turn a treasure” means to them. Images must be taken in the Susquehanna River Valley (Snyder, Union, or Northumberland Counties) during 2008.

“This is the first year for the contest and we look forward to making this an annual tradition at the visitors bureau,” Leighton said.

Prizes for the contest will be as follows: grand prize, $200; second place, $100; third place, $75; honorable mentions will be awarded $50 each.

Winning photos could also help spread the word about the Susquehanna River valley.

“The winning photos may be used on our Web site, in brochures that we produce to promote the tri-county region, in our visitors guide or in print advertisements regionally and nationally,” Leighton said.

To view the rules for the contest and to submit a digital image for consideration, please go to VisitCentralPA.org/PhotoContest.
