Man run over by garbage truck

COAL TOWNSHIP — A 54-year-old worker with a garbage collection business suffered severe leg injuries after he fell off of and was run over by the truck he was riding on Tuesday morning.

Coal Township police said Robert Jones was operating a garbage truck in the area of Poplar and Wood streets at 10:40 a.m. Jones was backing the truck from Poplar Street onto Wood Street when employee James Drumheiser, of Coal Township, fell from the passenger side of the truck.

He was listed in critical condition Tuesday night by a hospital nursing supervisor.

According to information relayed through Northumberland County Communications, Drumheiser went to jump onto the back of the truck to ride on it, but slipped off and fell, and the truck backed over his legs.

Drumheiser suffered injuries to both legs and was transported by AREA Services ambulance to Shamokin Area Community Hospital, from where he was flown by Life Flight helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
