Police Blotter: Theft of services


Theft of services

MOUNT CARMEL — Henry J. Mazur, 60, of East Ave., Mount Carmel, was cited by Patrolman Jason Drumheller for theft of services for allegedly dumping garbage bags into a Dumpster without the owner’s permission between Tuesday, Aug. 12, and Wednesday, Aug. 13.

Charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael F. Mychak, Mount Carmel.

Paraphernalia


SHAMOKIN — Timothy Kessler, 18, of 344 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton was charged by Patrolman Jarrod Scandle with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana following a traffic stop on Independence Street at 9:28 p.m. on August 12.

Police said Kessler was found in possession of a glass smoking pipe with marijuana residue and a plastic baggie containing with marijuana.

Charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Shamokin.

Window broken

COAL TOWNSHIP — Lahoma Wagner, of 445 Main St., Tharptown, reported to police someone broke the left front window on her 2001 Suzuki vehicle while it was parked in her driveway between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Criminal mischief

SHAMOKIN — Two men accused of vandalizing vehicles in the area of South Pearl Street during the early morning hours of Aug. 11 were pepper-sprayed by a concerned citizen and subsequently charged by city police with criminal offenses.

Ronald Wills, 20, of 67 Springside St., Locust Gap, is charged with criminal mischief, loitering and prowling at night, disorderly conduct and underage drinking. Corey Yentsch, 24, of 1060 W. Valley Ave., Elysburg, is charged with loitering and prowling at night, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Charges were filed by Patrolman Nathan Rhodes.

According to Rhodes, police were dispatched at 2:22 a.m. to the 200 block of South Pearl Street for a report of two males walking down the street with pepper spray and golf clubs. When he arrived on scene, Rhodes was told Wills and Yentsch were punching and kicking vehicles’ windows. When confronted by a citizen, the two allegedly threatened him. That’s when the citizen pepper-sprayed them both and chased them down the block, police said.

Wills and Yentsch were found shirtless at South Pearl and Pine streets and appeared to have been affected by the pepper spray, police said. The two, who said they could not see, denied vandalizing any vehicles and said they were casually walking when they were pepper-sprayed.

Rhodes observed Wills had fresh cuts on both forearms. While Wills contended he fell to the ground, Rhodes said he observed a small amount of fresh blood on the glass of a smashed vehicle window nearby. Wills and Yentsch were then taken into custody.

Charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Shamokin.

Change stolen

PACKERS ISLAND — William A. Zimmerman, 79, of Sunbury, reported to state police at Stonington someone stole $10 in loose change, a state driver’s license and a Medicare insurance card from his vehicle while it was parked along Island Boulevard between 6 p.m. Aug. 13 and 10:15 a.m. Aug. 14.

Marijuana offenses

SHAMOKIN — Two city residents were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana after Northumberland County Probation officers visited their home Aug. 14.

Patrolman Bryan Primerano filed the drug offenses against both John E. Persing, 34, and Heidi J. Rugh, 36, both of 621 E. Packer Street, Shamokin. Probation officers visited the home to check on Persing, who is on probation, when they allegedly found a marijuana smoking bowl with residue and a plastic bag containing a small amount of marijuana inside a bedroom.

Charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Shamokin.

ATV rider cited

MOUNT CARMEL — Eugene Aliberto, 29, of 531 W. Third St., Mount Carmel, was cited by Patrolman Matthew Dillman for operating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on a highway following an incident 11:53 a.m. Aug. 9 in the 500 block of West Second Street.

Radiators stolen

SHAMOKIN — Davina Rosado, 28, of 28 Perry Ave., Bloomsburg, is accused of stealing two cast iron radiators from a rental property at 912 E. Commerce St.

Rosado told police that she asked her landlord, Barry Getchey, about having the radiators fixed inside the property, and that he told her to fix them herself, which is why she removed and discarded them.

Getchey denied any such conversation occurred, police said. Police said he was reviewing the property with Rosado on Aug. 2, as she was moving out, when he discovered the radiators, valued at $150 each, were missing.

Rosado is charged by Patrolman Jarrod Scandle with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

Charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Shamokin.

Steel stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP — Randall Slodysko, of 857 W. Walnut St., told police someone stole three steel I-beams that he stored in a yard near the intersection of Water and Oak streets. Police said the beams were approximately 4-1/2 feet long and weighed between 200 pounds and 250 pounds. They are valued at $100, police said.

Resisting arrest

SHAMOKIN — Craig J. Bradley, 18, of 712 W. Pine St., Shamokin, was charged with resisting arrest and criminal mischief July 29 after he allegedly scuffled with Northumberland County Juvenile Probation officers in the attic of his home.

Patrolman Darwin Tobias III reported he was assisting probation officers in serving a warrant on Bradley and his 16-year-old brother. The authorities located Bradley in the home’s attic, allegedly hiding underneath a pile of clothing. Police said he did not comply with commands, took an aggressive stance against officers and actively resisted arrest. The authorities used pepper spray and physical force to take Bradley into custody, police said.

Criminal mischief

SHAMOKIN — Corey J. Feese, 18, of 530 Bear Valley Ave., Shamokin, was charged by Cpl. Robert Wolfe with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct for damaging a parked pickup truck with a flashlight, causing $552.26 in damage.

Police reported Feese admitted to tossing a flash light into the air around 11:20 p.m. July 22 that struck the vehicle’s hood, owned by Gene Miller.

Charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Shamokin.

DUI patrols

POTTSVILLE — The North Central Highway Safety Network’s Regional DUI Enforcement Group and the Coal Township Police Department have announced roving patrols on Routes 61, 225, 54, 487, 901 and connecting roadways to various municipalities through Aug. 27.

Travelers are reminded to report drunk drivers by dialing 911. To report underage drinking, call 1-888-UNDER-21.
