Susquehanna U.’s Artist Series begins
SELINSGROVE — Susquehanna University kicks off its annual Artist Series Sept. 14 with the world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra.
Glenn Miller, arguably music’s most iconic performer from the World War II generation, chose to create a definitive sound unlike any other in the big band era. In 1938, his orchestra smashed attendance records, and 70 years later, the Glenn Miller Orchestra still plays to sold-out audiences around the world. Now led by trombonist Larry O’Brien, the orchestra recreates the music made famous in dance halls and through radio broadcasts.
The 3 p.m. performance in Weber Chapel Auditorium costs $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $5 for students.
On Nov. 12, Hal Holbrook will present Mark Twain Tonight!, the quintessential one-person show and one of the most acclaimed and enduring performances in the history of theatre. The 7:30 p.m. production will be staged in Weber Chapel Auditorium.
Other 2008-09 Artist Series headliners are Hal Holbrook presenting Mark Twain Tonight! on Nov. 12, and the American Spiritual Ensemble on Feb. 17, 2009.
Tickets for all paid events are available at the Susquehanna University box office, by calling 372-2787 or by visiting http://www.susqu.edu/artists/tickets.htm.
