Business diversity conference hosts nationally known speaker

HARRISBURG — Bill Proudman, a founding partner of White Men as Full Diversity Partners, based in Portland, Ore., will be the keynote speaker at the first Pennsylvania Business Diversity Works Conference, to be held Tuesday and Wednesday at the Hershey Lodge.

White Men as Full Diversity Partners helps businesses and organizations understand that diversity is a resource that provides backbone to the perspective of a business or organization and contributes to innovation and vitality within organizational culture.

The conference, presented by The Team Pennsylvania Foundation in partnership with other organizations, is being offered to facilitate a better understanding of the positive impact of diversity in business, with a particular focus on the impact of business diversity on marketing strategies, by utilizing a mix of speakers, breakout sessions, limited exhibitors and an opening networking reception.

The conference is designed to benefit a broad cross-section of businesses and individuals, from CEOs to marketing directors, small businesses, minority chambers and similar organizations, and members of the general public interested in learning more about diversity initiatives in light of the rapidly changing demographics in the state and country.

The event starts with an opening reception on Tuesday evening, followed by speakers and breakout sessions on Wednesday.

The morning speaker will be Dana Chryst, CEO and owner of The Jay Group Inc., a Lancaster County-based company that provides marketing and fulfillment services to a broad array of clients, including Reebok and Pfizer.

Two professionally facilitated breakout sessions, scheduled for 9:30 and 11 a.m. Wednesday, will focus on the following topics: Generational Diversity, Developing a Solid Marketing Plan For Global Success, Marketing to Women, The Hispanic Market and Supplier Diversity Speed Networking presented by The Communication Gym.

The registration fee of $50 also includes a continental breakfast, the opportunity to attend two breakout sessions and lunch.

While this is the first statewide event, a similar Central Pennsylvania event has been held for the past three years under the sponsorship of the Team Pennsylvania Foundation and other local businesses and organizations with the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC. Hershey Entertainment and Resorts has signed on as a major private sector partner/sponsor for the event.

The Team Pennsylvania Foundation is presenting the Pennsylvania Business Diversity Conference in partnership with the following organizations: Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC (HRC/CREDC), the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, the Central PA Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Chamber of Central Pennsylvania and the African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Pennsylvania.

The Business Diversity Works Conference event grew out of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC’s 2003 Board retreat and the need for greater inclusion and understanding of diversity in our region.

Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, The Hershey Co., The Patriot-News and Highmark are founding partners of the program.

Registration and a continental breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

To register for the conference, call the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC at 717-232-4099 or visit www.pabusinessdiversityworks.com.
