FASD week to be held at BU
BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Drug, Alcohol and Wellness Network (DAWN) and Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority are sponsoring events during Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Week, Sept. 8 to 14, to emphasize the dangers of drinking alcohol during pregnancy.
The week’s events, presented in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Programs, include a seminar by Daniel Dubovsky, FASD specialist from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Kehr Union. The seminar is open to the public free of charge.
BU also will host a training event for professionals and service providers, sponsor an awareness ribbon campaign and provide information on FASD prevention and intervention.
Gov. Ed Rendell proclaimed FASD Awareness Week to draw attention to serious physical, mental, behavioral and learning disabilities that can affect children whose mothers use alcohol during pregnancy. Shamokin Area school to meet
COAL TOWNSHIP — The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Shamokin Area School District will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the board conference room.
