BLOOMSBURG — For the first time in more than three decades, there is a new president of the Bloomsburg Fair Board, and he’s a short time away from his fair week debut.
Never fear, says his predecessor, Fred Trump.
“I’m not worried about Gustav, I’m not worried about Hanna, not worried about Ike and not worried about Josephine,” Trump said at the annual fair press luncheon inside the Industrial Arts building Wednesday. “And I’m not worried about Todd (Lehman), because I’m sure he’s going to do a wonderful job.”
Trump, Lehman and others spelled out details for the 154th edition of the fair, which runs Sept. 20-27 on the 250-acre fairgrounds. A new Web site and a new discount ticket program highlighted the discussion.
The new Web site, www.bloomsburgfair.com, created by The Internet Place Inc., Berwick, includes the ability to purchase tickets online for grandstand shows and other fair attractions. Visitors can see videos of the performers, as demonstrated Wednesday.
“Pictures will pop up showing the attraction in full color if we have it available,” Lehman said, “When tickets are ordered for our grandstand shows, those buying will be able to see where the seats will be that they can purchase or pick different ones. It has really been a great tool to help advertise the fair.”
In fact, Lehman said the fair received an e-mail from Internet search engine Google on Aug. 2, the day grandstand show tickets went on sale, noting the tremendous activity of 890,000 hits.
The country music, rock, oldies and comedy stars coming to Bloomsburg will use a rental stage, Lehman said.
“We have torn down the old stage because of all the flood damage and we’re looking into a more permanent structure that will be bigger and better than ever,” he said.
Carey Howell, superintendent of the grandstand, said country supergroup Sugarland is by far the most popular act this year, with only a few hundred seats left for the show on Friday, Sept. 26.
Other acts include Jason Aldean with special guests Jason Michael Carroll and Bucky Covington (Sept. 20); Kellie Pickler with special guest Lady Antebellum (Sept. 21); Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Chubby Checker with Little Anthony and the Imperials (Sept. 22); .38 Special with special guests The Guess Who (Sept. 23); Blake Shelton with “America’s Got Talent” winner Terry Fator (Sept. 24); and Three Days Grace with guests Sick Puppies (Sept. 25).
New this year, track tickets for Three Days Grace and Sick Puppies will be for standing only. All other shows will have chairs on the track as is normal procedure.
Other events at the main grandstand include the JM Production Figure 8 Race on Sept. 20, freestyle motocross on Sept. 21, and harness horse racing events Sept. 22, 23 and 24. Also at the grandstand will be the Sunset Ice Cream Pennsylvania State Championship Demolition Derby on Sept. 27, and the Full Pull Productions Inc. Truck and Tractor Pull later that day.
Discounted fair admission tickets are available for purchase at Giant Supermarkets in the region, including stores in Danville and Shamokin Dam. Normal admission price is $4. Through the discounts, three admissions cost $10 and eight cost $25. Children under 12 are admitted free.
Special free admission days are scheduled for members of the Armed Forces and senior citizens on Monday, Sept. 22; and for students on Tuesday, Sept. 23 and Thursday, Sept. 25.
Saturday, Sept. 20 will be Bloomsburg University Football Day. Everyone with a stub from the game will receive $1 off admission that day.
Fair officials hope to have a program in place that will allow fairgoers to purchase admission tickets at the gate using a credit card.
