SUNBURY — Republican Chris Hackett, who will face Congressman Christopher Carney in the 10th Congressional District race, opened an office in Sunbury on Friday.
The office, at 216 Market St., was once occupied by Hackett’s Republican primary opponent, Dan Meuser, whom he defeated in the primary election.
The office, owned by Sunbury Mayor Jesse Woodring, will be a second base of operation to Hackett’s main office in Dallas.
According to Hackett’s Campaign Manager Mark Harris, the office is centrally located to the four counties, Union, Montour, Snyder and Northumberland, which Hackett is trying to reach.
“The mayor offered this and we felt is was a great opportunity,” Harris said. “It is a great base of operation for use in what is a very important county,” he added.
Harris said the office symbolizes the Republican party working together to make sure the seat is won.
Volunteers for the Hackett campaign will work phone banks in the evenings, and the office will be a distribution point for signs and bumper stickers, Harris said.
Harris said Hackett, who has been traveling throughout the counties on the campaign trail, will visit the office when he’s in the area.
In addition to the mayor, the grand opening of the office was attended by county Controller Chuck Erdman, Snyder County Republican Chairman John Reed, Union County Republican Chairman Yvonne Morgan, as well as many volunteers for the Hackett campaign.
The office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, with expanded hours planned in the future.
