Guard hit with liquid
COAL TOWNSHIP — State at police at Stonington are continuing their investigation into an Aug. 29 incident at the State Correctional Institution at Coal Township in which an inmate threw a liquid at a correctional officer.
Police said a known inmate, who was not identified by police, allegedly threw a liquid substance, which was possibly urine, at Correctional Officer Peter Koretski, which struck him on the face, arms, chest and shoulders. Koretski was treated for exposure at Shamokin Area Community Hospital and released.
Police said the incident occurred at 9 a.m.
Underage drinking
LOCUST GAP — Mount Carmel Township Patrolman David Stamets Jr. has cited Jamie Ruzicka, 19, of 1737 Hollow Road, Sunbury, and a 17-year-old female from Coal Township for underage drinking relating to an incident that occurred at 4:16 a.m. Saturday at Marshall Street and Route 54.
Scattering rubbish
LOCUST GAP — Valeria J. Ross, 44, whose last known address is Red Hill, was cited by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman David Stamets Jr. for scattering rubbish involving an Aug. 23 rubbish fire on Helfenstein Mountain.
During the investigation, police located numerous pieces of garbage containing Ross’ name and address.
Assisting at the fire scene were members of Locust Gap Fire Company.
Public drunkenness
ATLAS — Patrolman David Stamets Jr. cited Bonnie Marie Lahr, 24, of 122 N. Hickory St., Mount Carmel, for public drunkenness in connection with an incident that occurred at 3 a.m. Friday on Route 61 at the Viaduct.
Police said Lahr, who was heavily intoxicated, was observed walking in the middle of the road.
Moped operator injured
DELAWARE TOWNSHIP — Harold L. Newcomer, 73, of Watsontown, suffered moderate injuries in a moped accident at about 5 p.m. Sunday on Church Road, less than 50 feet south of Route 54.
State police at Milton reported Newcomer was driving a moped west along Route 54 when he turned left and traveled south onto Church Road. For an unknown reason, police said Newcomer’s mo-ped then traveled into the oncoming traffic lane and went off the right edge of the road before striking a ditch.
Newcomer was trapped under the moped and was assisted by passersbys before being transported by Warrior Run Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where he underwent emergency room treatment before being admitted in serious condition, according to a hospital spokesman.
Harassment
M0UNT CARMEL — Rose Daya, 46, of 47 West Ave., Mount Carmel, was cited by Chief of Police Brian Shurock for harassment in connection with a disturbance at 1:12 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of West Avenue.
Police reported Daya is accused of slapping her estranged 54-year-old husband, David Daya, across the face.
Criminal mischief
COAL TOWNSHIP — Scott Capps Jr., 27, of 908 E. Packer St., Shamokin, will be cited by Patrolman Edward Purcell for criminal mischief for allegedly taking a cell phone from Krysta Jones, 23, of 666 Bear Valley Ave., Shamokin, and smashing it off the ground in front of Crown Lanes Bowling Alley at Tioga and Logan streets at 3:30 a.m. Friday. The phone was broken in the incident, police said.
Domestic dispute
SUNBURY — Nelson T. Vasques-Iraheta, 36, of 260 Race St., Apt. 3-W, Sunbury, was arraigned at 11 p.m. Sunday via videoconferencing by on-call Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III on charges of simple assault and harassment and committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Sunbury Patrolman Corey Zerbe, Vasques-Iraheta punched his girlfriend, Marcia De Young, numerous times in the face, causing serious injury. Police said the assault occurred at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday at Vasques-Iraheta’s apartment.
Multiple charges
MARION HEIGHTS — Victor J. Pawloski, 40, of 100 W. Melrose St., Marion Heights, has been charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Matthew Filarski with possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, flight to avoid apprehension, two counts of disorderly conduct, operating an all-terrain vehicle on a street, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving a vehicle without insurance relating to incidents that occurred at about 4 p.m. Friday outside his residence.
After stopping Pawloski for riding an ATV on a borough street, Filarski said the defendant became combative and refused to comply with the officer’s commands, resulting in a physical struggle that required Filarski to handcuff Pawloski. Filarski had to wrestle Pawloski to the ground before the defendant’s mother began to talk with him and convinced her son to calm down.
Pawloski was then taken into custody, at which time police found a syringe commonly used to inject narcotics in his right front pants pocket.
Police said Pawloski suffered several abrasions while resisting arrest, but refused medical treatment.
Pawloski was arraigned at 8:15 p.m. Friday via videoconferencing by on-call Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.
Lost property
HERNDON — Barbara J. Reinoehl, 73, of 505 Witmer Road, reported a lost diamond watch, ring and earrings sometime between July and August, according to the state police at Stonington. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 286-5601.
