53 graduate from Central Susquehanna LPN Career Center

SUNBURY — Fifty-three students graduated from the Central Susquehanna LPN Career Center during a commencement program Aug. 13 at Shikellamy High School.
Located at 1145 N. Fourth St., the center has been operated by the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU) since 1997. The class was the 85th to enroll at the school since it opened in 1967.
In welcoming graduates and their guests, Dr. Robert G. Witten, CSIU executive director, praised students for their hard work and perseverance during the course.
At least 37 students plan to work in the area. Thirty-one attended the program while raising children.
Graduates include: Jennifer Timbrell, of Berwick; Amanda Cupp, Amanda Richart and Aimee Sponenberg, of Bloomsburg; Brandi Lawton, Melissa Miller, Stephen Persavage, Emily Slovinsky and Craig Varney, of Coal Township; Linda Boyer, Stefany Byers, Brianna Martin and Tara Tyson, of Danville; Stacey Fisher and Stephani Fisher, of Lewisburg; Helen Frye, of Linden; Rachel Buck, Katie Jordan, Nikita Knepp and Tricia Ross, of Middleburg; Megan Hackenberg, Lucinda Marks, Julie Miller and Nichole Shoemaker, of Mifflinburg; Heather Baker, of Millmont; Rebecca Craver, of Millville; Kimberly Buss and Jamie Rupert, of Milton; Carolyn Hackenburg and Carol Johnson, of Mount Pleasant Mills; Deanna Yoder, of Nescopeck; Michael Hoffman and Stefanie Reichenbach, of Northumberland; Wendy Kline, of Paxtonville; Martha Robertson and Brooke Trelinski, of Penns Creek; Kristina Clements and Jessica Kodack, of Ranshaw; Megan Anderson, Gloria Benfer, Jennifer Campbell, Tabitha Esenwein, Valerie Gobora, Chelsea Hartman and Dottie Row, of Selinsgrove; Heather Sparaco, of Shamokin; Shari Lloyd and Leslie McAlister, of Sunbury; Melissa Finan, of Trevorton; Heather Felix and Amy Lankford, of Watsontown; Malinda Getty, of Williamsport, and Jillian Wynings, of Winfield.
Carolyn Hackenburg was selected by the class as student speaker for the ceremony.
Awards and diplomas were presented by Carol Barbarich, center director.
Stacey Fisher was the recipient of the Achievement Award, scoring the highest on a standardized test taken during the final weeks of the program. The test measures students’ academic achievement in the knowledge necessary for successful nursing practice.
Jamie Rupert was recognized as a recipient of the Margaret Gass Memorial Scholarship.
The practical nursing program is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
The center conducts a full-time program lasting one year and a part-time program that spans two years. Students attend classes in Sunbury, and clinical experience is provided in affiliated hospitals, nursing care facilities, doctors’ offices and child care settings.
