The first regular monthly meeting of the Mount Carmel Area PTA for the 2008-09 school year was held Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Mount Carmel Area Elementary library.
Under new business, Susquehanna Bank will no longer be the participating bank for “Banking Day” this year and will be replaced by Union National Bank. Information on “Banking Day” will be sent home with students shortly.
Art Craft is the present fundraiser for the Mount Carmel Area PTA. Art Craft offers a wide variety of items not limited to candy, candles, magazine subscriptions, gift wrap, car magnets and other goodies. If interested in placing an order, contact any PTA officer.
The Santa Shop will be held again this year from Dec. 2 to Dec. 5. Mandy Scicchitano and Carleen Zlockie will run the Santa Shop again this year.
The Scholastic Book Fair was held Sept. 15 to Sept. 19. This book fair provides books for the elementary library. The next book fair will run in conjunction with the Santa Shop.
Suggestions are being taken for Christmas gifts for elementary students. Any ideas are appreciated.
Wednesday is “Walk to School Day” featuring the “Walking School Bus.”
The Reflections Program topic this year will be “Wow!” It is open to students in grades pre-kindergarden to 12th.
The PTA is still accepting Labels for Education, BoxTops for Education, Moo Money from Turkey Hill milk jugs, Tyson labels and Nestle Pure Life water labels. All labels can be sent in with students and dropped off in the PTA mailbox located in the office.
The new officers for the 2008-09 school year are Francine Davis, president elect; Tara Purcell, president; Angela Venna, vice president; Maria Edmondson, treasurer and Margaret Barnhardt, secretary.
The next meeting of the Mount Carmel Area PTA is scheduled 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in the elementary library. It will be Family Game Night, and all are welcome.
