4 illegal immigrants detained in Sunbury

SUNBURY — A saturation patrol of the city Saturday night involving 10 law enforcement departments led to a number of arrests, including of four illegal Honduran nationals.

Sunbury police said the four Hondurans were remanded to the regional office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for possible deportation.

The saturation patrol was the second of its kind in Sunbury, aimed at improving the quality of life, city police said in a press release. Police targeted traffic and criminal violations, alleged drug dealers, gang members and illegal immigrants as well as probation violations.

Special agents and police officers made 67 street contacts, one drug arrest, two arrests for driving under the influence, one traffic arrest and six warnings, four probation violations, with two violators committed to county prison, and inspections of seven city bars. There was also an unspecified number of persons retained as possible confidential informants for joint drug and gang task forces.

Participating in the saturation patrol were Sunbury police, state Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation, state police Special Interdiction Unit, Snyder County District Attorney’s Office, Northumberland County Probation, Northumberland Montour Drug Task Force, and police departments from Watsontown, Northumberland and Point Township.
