John Irvin Schankweiler and Joyce Ann Cox, of Coal Township, were married on June 13, 1959, in First Baptist Church, Lansdale, and recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Joyce is a daughter of Edith H. Cox and the late Leland E. Cox, of Lansdale. John is a son of the late John R. and Myrtle (Strausser) Schankweiler, of Shamokin.

John and Joyce lived and worked in the Lansdale area until 1976, and then they returned to Shamokin when John assumed management of the Shamokin-Coal Township Joint Sewer Authority. He retired in 1998.

Joyce was employed as a bank teller with Northern Central Bank, First National Trust Bank and Susquehanna Bank. She retired in 2003.

She has been active in St. John's United Church of Christ, Shamokin, as a Sunday school teacher for many years.

John and Joyce are the parents of a daughter, Dawn Ann Schankweiler, of Blandon.

The couple celebrated their anniversary with an intimate family dinner at Toscani's restaurant in Shillington, and will be taking a trip out west in early August to reunite with John's Navy shipmates.
