Naples DAILY News
EVERGLADES CITY, Fla. — Four area residents, three of whom were related, were killed Wednesday afternoon after their car sped through an intersection near Everglades City and was T-boned by a van.
The victims were identified by Florida Highway Patrol as James J. Rosini, 66; William J. Rosini, 68; Patricia C. Rosini, 65, and Deborah A. Korbich, 59. The Rosinis are all from Coal Township, while Korbich is from Elysburg.
James J. Rosini was a Shamokin attorney who was a former Northumberland County judge and district attorney. At the time of his death, he was serving as the county’s assistant solicitor. His wife, Patricia, was director of county Area Agency on Aging.
William J. Rosini was co-owner of Shamokin Filler. Deborah A. Korbich had worked for Miller Gas & Oil.
Just before 4 p.m., a silver Ford Taurus was driving north on State Road 29, leaving Everglades City, when it drove through the intersection with U.S. 41 East without stopping for the flashing red light, Sgt. Dwayne Cooper said.
A gray conversion van heading west on U.S. 41 struck the Ford’s passenger side, sending the car into a guardrail, Cooper said. The van overturned.
“We found three people in the car. They were all expired when we checked them in the car,” Ochopee Fire Chief Alan McLaughlin said. “We found one person that was ejected from the car and was down on the canal bank.”
The woman who had been ejected died in the back of an ambulance while a medical helicopter was en route.
None of the victims was wearing a seat belt, the FHP reported. Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash.
David L. Dahl, 63, and Joanne Dahl, 60, of South Williamsport — the couple in the van — were both buckled up and out of their vehicle by the time emergency responders arrived, authorities said. David Dahl sustained serious injuries in the crash, while Joanne Dahl suffered minor injuries.
Cooper said he believes the victims didn’t realize the flashing light was red, requiring a stop. The light at the intersection flashes yellow for traffic heading east and west, and flashes red for vehicles traveling north and south.
“We think they were on vacation,” he said. “We found a lot of park tickets from Miami and around the area in the glovebox.”

SHAMOKIN — Police are continuing their search today for a young adult male who robbed an employee of a local business making a night deposit at First National Bank at Market and Chestnut streets Tuesday night.
Shamokin Police Chief Edward Griffiths said the robber, who is described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 145 pounds, was armed with a pellet gun that resembled a handgun when he attacked the male victim from behind as he exited his vehicle to drop off a nightly deposit from his employer shortly after 9 p.m.
After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money and the deposit bag, the robber ran south on Coal Street through a yard before discarding his gray hooded sweatshirt with a Shamokin Area insignia and his mask at the entryway to a home on South Coal Street. The assailant also threw away his pellet gun and the bank bag in Carbon Creek near Mr. Pizza, police said.
The victim was not injured.
Police said the robber also was wearing light colored jeans and sneakers.

The Associated Press late Tuesday moved some photographs from the New Giants Super Bowl parade in New York City that show Elysburg's Henry Hynoski.

Hynoski, a rookie fullback who was signed by the Giants in late July and found himself winning pro football's biggest prize just over six months later, was on a float with fellow backs Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw and other players as the parade made its way through the "Canyon of Heroes."

The 2007 Southern Columbia High School graduate caught two passes for 19 yards - both for first downs - recovered a fumble and did what numerous experts have said was a great job as a lead blocker in the Giants 21-17 win over New England Sunday in Indianapolis.
