ZERBE TOWNSHIP - A man was taken by private vehicle to Shamokin Area Community Hospital to be treated for injuries sustained after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a pickup truck and burst into flames on Route 2044 around 5:40 p.m. Sunday.
The driver of the motorcycle was transported to the hospital by a passerby before emergency responders arrived at the scene, so his name was not known by officials or witnesses Sunday night.
The unidentified victim was reportedly trying to pass two vehicles on his motorcycle while traveling south on Route 2044, near Trevorton, when his bike hit the front fender of a blue 2002 Ford Ranger, driven by Jordan Bixler, 21, of Trevorton.
Bixler, who was traveling north on Route 2044, said the driver was conscious before being taken to the hospital.
Damage on the truck was confined to its driver's side. A long scratch was visible, the driver's side tires were flat and the truck's side mirror was no longer attached. A pile of twisted and mangled metal, what was once a motorcycle, remained on the street - known locally as "Gap Road" - after the crash.
The motorcycle burst into flames after the accident. Firefighters from Trevorton Fire Company extinguished the blaze.
