Bank robbery suspect ID'd, arraigned; bail set at $300K

Richard R. Synder, 26, of 510 N. 8th St. Apt. 6, Shamokin, was video arraigned by Magisterial District Justice John Gembic II at 10:45 p.m. Monday on felony theft charges in relation to a robbery at the Elysburg branch of Santander Bank. Bail was set at $300,000 cash according to a criminal complaint. 

He is charged by Ralpho Township Patrolman Bryan Chowka with felony counts of robbery of a financial institution on oral or written demand and criminal conspiracy as well as misdemeanors of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. 

At approximately 1:30 p.m. Monday, Ralpho Township Police Chief Suart Appel was dispatched to a robbery at Santander Bank, 196 W. Valley Ave. A witness at the scene described an individual with dark clothing running from the bank behind residential homes. The accused was said to have escaped in a green four-door hatchback traveling south on Route 487. 

Snyder and another suspect were taken into custody minutes later at the intersection of Route 61 and Hospital Road.
