More than 100 prizes ready for Zerbe Township clerk fundraiser
TREVORTON — More than 100 prizes were piled high on the tables at the Zerbe Township Municipal Building Thursday afternoon in anticipation of a fundraiser for a township clerk.
The prizes will be awarded during a Chinese auction from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday benefiting Donna Reed, who is suffering from terminal liver cancer.
Cristie Stiely, Reed’s niece and co-clerk, said she hoped to raise as much money as possible through the event because medical bills and associated costs are piling up.
“Any little thing helps,” she said.
Stiely and a group of volunteers decided to hold the fundraiser in Reed’s honor because she has dedicated her life to many community organizations. In addition to her work at the township, Reed is a longtime volunteer of the Trevorton Fire Co. and Trevorton Community Ambulance.
“She always gives, and it’s our time to give back,” said Stiely.
Prizes for the Chinese auction include numerous theme baskets, fishing rods, crafts, at least one television, a picnic table, bicycles and dozens of gift cards. Participants will have three chances to win 100 gallons of fuel from Werner Fuels, Bloom Heating and Superior Plus Energy Services.
A special raffle will be held for some larger prizes, including two tickets to see Luke Bryan perform in Philadelphia and two tickets to a Pat Benatar and Rick Springfield concert at Spyglass Ridge Winery.
R.A.T.L will provide music from noon to 3 p.m. at the bandstand. A variety of food will be available, including black kettle bean soup, barbecue, pierogies, halushki, pigeons, hot dogs, pepper soup, chicken corn soup, baked goods and kielbasi.
Reed is expected to make an appearance at the event, Stiely said.
“It’s going to be a great spring day,” she said.
