Sham-MC tops Montrose 10-0

HUGHESTOWN — Shamokin-Mount Carmel’s Mark Wetzel threw a complete game four-hit shutout on way to a 10-0 mercy rule-shortened seven inning win over Montrose in an American Legion Region 5 elimination matchup Sunday.

Shamokin-Mount Carmel managed 11 hits during its offensive onslaught that put runs on the board in every inning but the second.

Austin Reed, who scored three runs, went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two singles. Bret Williams went 2-for-4 with two singles and a walk, and he also scored a run. Collin Hoover went 2-for-2 with a triple, a single, two walks and scored two runs.

Shamokin-Mount Carmel will face Dickson City today in another elimination game. Dickson City won its opening game against Nanticoke 5-2 before losing on Sunday to Greater Pittston 9-6. Shamokin-Mount Carmel entered the losers bracket after a tournament opening loss to Montoursville 13-3 on Saturday.
