Endangers kids
SHAMOKIN - Robert Gawne Jr., 27, of 930 E. Chestnut St., Shamokin, has been charged by Chief of Police John Brown with endangering the welfare of children relating to an Oct. 27 incident at Chestnut and Lombard streets.
Police reported Gawne is accused of leaving his two children, ages 2 and 3, unsupervised while he went shopping at Wal-Mart. Police said one of the children was found outside the residence by neighbors.
Attempted break-in
RUSH TOWNSHIP - The owners of Believer's Bookshelf, along Route 4005, reported to state police at Stonington that at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, someone attempted to gain entry into the business by removing an air conditioner from a wall.
Two-vehicle crash
NORWEGIAN TOWNSHIP - A Pottsville man was flown to Lehigh Valley Medical Center for treatment following a two-vehicle crash at 11:54 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Route 61 and Tunnel Road in Norwegian Township.
State police at Schuylkill Haven report that a 1998 Subaru Legacy, driven by Allen G. Wood, 91, of Pottsville was traveling east on Mall Road coming to a flashing red traffic control light and a 2006 Mack Granite truck, driven by Russell A. Chubb, 56, of Mount Carmel, was traveling south on Route 61 approaching a yellow flashing control light. Police say that Wood then entered the intersection of Route 61 and was struck on the front left side by the truck.
After the impact, the Legacy continued to travel 270 degrees clockwise, hitting a curb on the right shoulder of Mall Road, coming to a final rest facing north, After hitting the curb, Wood was ejected out the drivers side window, landing next to the car. The truck continued forward, coming to rest facing south on the southbound shoulder of Route 61.
Wood was transported to Schuylkill Medical Center East by Pottsville EMS and then flown to Lehigh Valley Medical Center, where he is listed in good condition. Assisting police at the scene were East Norwegian Township Fire Company No. 1 and No. 2, St. Clair Hook and Ladder Rescue, Pottsville EMS, Pottsville ALS, Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven EMS and St. Clair Ambulance. Police say the incident remains under investigation.
