Watch program, students refresh Town Park gazebo

MOUNT CARMEL - The smell of fresh paint was evident at the Mount Carmel Borough gazebo located in the Town Park. Young men from the Northumberland County Career and Technical School, along with their instructor, James Yurick, are working in conjunction with members of the Mount Carmel Community Watch Program to repair and refresh the gazebo.
"We are very grateful to Mr. Yurick and his carpentry class. The gazebo and the town park are an integral part of our community and we are committed to having it remain something of which we can all be proud. We invite others to join us as we continue to make our community not only safe, but beautiful, too," President Sue Wilson said.
The Mount Carmel Community Watch is comprised of local citizens, led by Wilson, and is organized to improve the community by serving as the eyes and ears of the police force. Officer Matt Dillman is the police liaison to the group. In addition to their mission of community safety, the group has also taken on projects to improve the lives of Mount Carmel citizens. The group recently conducted a successful National Night Out, teaching safety and entertaining many of the borough's children. The event was held in the Town Park.
Other projects
Along with the gazebo project, local volunteers also conducted a Safe Halloween night by distributing treats to children at the Mount Carmel Borough Hall.
The group will also hold a Chinese auction at the Mount Carmel Area High School at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Local businesses have contributed valuable items and services to support the Community Watch so they can continue their efforts in behalf of the community.
