Tip of the camo hat to rescuers, friends

To the editor: On Saturday morning, Oct. 17, I fell more than 20 feet while bow hunting and severely fractured my left leg.

Although the accident was due to a faulty tree stand, there was nothing faulty about the combined efforts that resulted in my rescue.

My camo hat is off to all the members of the Mount Carmel Township Police, firefighters and rescue crews. Their professionalism and courtesy is unsurpassed. The rescue was brutal, and I thank you guys sincerely. Awesome job!

Also, a special thank you goes out to Mrs. Hollenbush and her second-grade class at Mount Carmel Area Elementary School for the wonderful get-well cards. Your drawings are a delight; I proudly share them with my friends and family. To the Kulpmont Cougars Football "C" team and coaches - go KFBA! This organization rocks!

To all my friends and family, of course, but especially to my buddy Jim Hutnick, for his patience, quick thinking and concern - his network of contacts with the Bozza family, and Mr. Kreisher made it all possible and prevented a dire situation from getting worse.

I couldn't be more humble or proud to live in our area with so many wonderful people. The very least I can do is say thank you from the bottom of my heart. May God bless and keep you all safe, sound and warm this season and always.

With heartfelt appreciation

Andrew "Zak" Zakashefski and family
