Editor's note: The following letter was sent to Tharptown residents:

Dear Tharptown residents: We are in the process of making many changes within the Union Fire Company. We have already appointed a new president, Dennis Boyer Jr. New line officers have been appointed and include Greg R. Adams as the new company captain.

We are trying to come up with ideas to reinvent this company, but we need to get our finances back on track to be able to provide this community with the fire protection you deserve. We have closed the bar, but now we need a different source of income to pay off our outstanding debts, as well as generate money to be able to keep the fire truck in service.

We are asking you for any kind of monetary donation you can offer. We would appreciate any amount you can afford.

We cannot guarantee the future of this company, but with our new president and line officers, we are going to work our hardest and do our best to keep your fire engine in service.

We will be holding a fund drive on Thursday. We thank you in advance for any support you can offer.

Sincerely,

Dennis Boyer Jr., president

Greg R. Adams, captain

Union Fire Company

The bar was closed because of no business, it is not cost effective to keep the bar open with only one or two patrons an evening, our efforts need to be focused on firefighting and not the headaches of the bar.

you should re-open the bar and get the right people to run it properly! In the past there have been too many hands in the till! What a shame that a nice friends gathering place has been closed.the bar could generate money for the company if it was handled by the right people.
