SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP — Two area men escaped serious injuries early Sunday evening in a one-car accident on Irish Valley Road.

Jared Dresser, 19, of 217 Pine St. Catawissa, and Cody Sejuit, 18 of Captain Bloom Road, Sunbury, were transported by Elysburg ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after the 6:30 p.m. accident. Dressler sustained injuries to one arm and abrasions of the head, while Sejuit was taken to the hospital for evaluation, according to first responders.

State police at Stonington responded to the scene where they said Dressler was driving east on Irish Valley Road approximately three miles from the Route 61 tunnel and lost control on a sharp curve after he observed a deer entering the highway from the southern berm. Swerving to miss the animal, Dressler said his vehicle went out of control on the opposite side of the highway, went over a slight embankment off the northern shoulder and crashed into a large tree resulting in extensive damage to the car which had to be towed.

Weather conditions at the time were wet and foggy, according to police and firefighters.

Responding with police and Elysburg ambulance crew members were firefighters from Stonington, Elysburg and Ralpho Township of Overlook.
