Homicide ruled in Locust Gap death; victim ID’d

LOCUST GAP — The Northumberland County Coroner has identified the man found in a wooded area southeast of Locust Gap Wednesday morning and ruled his death a homicide.

Coroner James F. Kelley said Sean M. Maschal, 33, of 113 S. Lemon St., Mount Carmel, died of a gun shot wound to his head.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner James Gotlob at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Kelley said. An autopsy was performed Thursday morning by Dr. Rameen Starling-Roney at Forensic Pathology Associates, Allentown, he said.

He declined to release any further information.

Maschal was found at around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday by a Locust Gap resident who was riding his ATV along a path in the woods.
