COAL TOWNSHIP — Jeff Kashner was re-elected as president of the Shamokin Area School Board during Wednesday’s annual reorganization meeting held at Northumberland County Career and Technology Center.

Ron McElwee will continue to serve as vice president, while duties of treasurer will switch hands from Robert Getchey to Charles Shuey. Attorney Tim Bowers, of Sunbury, will serve as the board’s new solicitor, replacing James A. Zurick.

Two new board members were elected to serve in separate positions. Brian Persing was elected to an unexpired term to represent Shamokin School District on the Northumberland County Career and Technology Center Operating Agency Board, and Erik Anderson will serve as the district’s Pennsylvania School Board Association (PSBA) liaison.

The board unanimously voted to continue holding meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month in 2018 with the exception of December when they will hold another reorganization meeting.

Appreciation was extended to outgoing members Richard Kashnoski, Matthew Reed Losiewicz, Rosalie Smoogen and Bernard Sosnoskie Jr. High School Principal Chris Venna presented a framed board resolution and a lifetime pass for district sponsored events to Kashnoski and Smoogen, who were the only outgoing members present.

Ed Griffiths was presented with a certificate from the PSBA for 16 years of service on the Shamokin Area School Board.
