Mayor W. Fred Kohler, Jr., today issued a proclamation urging all residents to observe Veterans’ Day, November 11, in a fitting manner.
The mayor’s proclamation points out that the once-a-year observance gives American citizens the opportunity to pay memorial tribute to service men of all wars who honor all living veterans, many of whom are handicapped in various ways because of their service to the nation.
Mayor Kohler’s proclamation was issued in connection with the program planned by Blyler-Quinn Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the post auxiliary. The program will be presented in the post home at 7:30 Thursday evening.
Observance of Veterans’ Day is expected to take on added significance, since the day was designated this year by its new name and set as a time for honoring decreased service men and veterans of all wars. The date, November 11, was observed as Armistice Day from shortly after World War I until this year.
