Philip Vagnoe, of Mount Carmel, Alleged Bandit Gang, Liberated Yesterday
Friends were successful yesterday in gaining the release of one of a quintet of alleged robbers, who were committed to the Northumberland County Prison at Sunbury in default of bail this week following hearings before Justice of the Peace Muldowney here on charges of robbing the Valley House Hotel and Railroad and Turnpike streets and Roy’s Cafe, 37 South Locust St.
He was Philip Vagnoe, of Reading, who was one of the first four men captured at Reading this week in connections with the alleged holdups that recently occurred in this city.
His release was effected late yesterday afternoon when friends journeyed to the county seat at Sunbury and $1,500 cash bail as required by court yesterday.
Efforts were also made yesterday to secure the release of Felix Bochicia, Atlas youth, known as “Man O’ War,” but to no avail. Court, it was said, refused to accept the bail that was offered in his case.
With the release of Vagnoe on bail, four members of the alleged gang still remain in the county prison. They are Bochiccio, supposed leader, Michael Dudzinski, Joseph Latini and Walter Rawa, all of Exchange.
