Stabbing victim remains serious

DANVILLE — Kyle Pekera, 36, of Gainesville, Virginia, and formerly of the Shamokin area, who was stabbed with a knife during an altercation just after midnight Sunday in a parking lot on Liberty Valley Road, remained in serious condition Monday at Geisinger Medical Center, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Scam warning

RANSHAW — A woman from this Coal Township village is warning those in the surrounding areas of a scam in which a caller says he’s from Publisher’s Clearinghouse.

The woman received a call last week and was told she was a big winner, but had to send a $6,000 check to cover taxes.

Authorities warn to not give personal information or send money to anyone without first verifying they are working for a legitimate agency.


THARPTOWN — Coal Township Police are investigating the theft of a yellow 2003 Suzuki RM250 dirt bike from a residence on 21st Street in Tharptown. The theft occurred between Sept. 6 and 10. Anyone with information is asked to call 570-644-0333.


UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP — State police in Selinsgrove report sometime between 1 p.m. Sept. 3 and 9 a.m. Sept. 4 an unknown person went into unlocked vehicles parked in the driveway of 238 Pontius Ave., Upper Augusta Township, and took a purse and handbag containing cash, bank cards, gift cards and change belonging to Corney Lee Hostetler, 28, of Sunbury.
