Child struck

COAL TOWNSHIP — Coal Township Police are investigating a motor vehicle accident in which a child was struck at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday in the 1400 block of Walnut Street. Police are attempting to locate and speak with the female driver of a bluish-gray SUV, believed to be in her 60s with long, gray hair, who stopped at the scene. The child was treated at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital and released.

Public drunkenness

THARPTOWN — Jason McCormick, 36, of 830 Lott St., Coal Township, has been charged with public drunkeness. At approximately 12:30 a.m., Saturday, McCormick was intoxicated and slumped over sitting on the sidewalk in the 100 block of Center Street.

Hit and run

COAL TOWNSHIP — Coal Township Police are investigating a hit and run accident that occurred in the 1100 block of West Pine Street at approximately 3:30 a.m. Sunday. William Betzer, 75, of 1153 W. Pine St., had his vehicle struck while it was parked in front of his residence. The silver offending vehicle has extensive front end damage and fled the scene. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact Coal Township Police Department at 570-644-0333.

Vehicle accident

WICONISCO TOWNSHIP — A Mount Carmel man was charged by State Police at Lykens with driving vehicle at unsafe speed as a result of a one-vehicle crash Sunday.

Britan X. Williams, 23, was traveling west on Pottsville Street in Wiconisco Township and was allegedly traveling too fast to properly drive around a curve. His 2009 Pontiac G6 drove through mud on the shoulder of the road and crossed into the eastbound lane of travel before traveling off the roadway. His vehicle came to a rest on private property, where it struck a large rock and remained there with its front driver side wheel on the rock, disabling the vehicle.
