COAL TOWNSHIP — The Shamokin Area Middle/High School music department will present its annual Pops Concert at 7 p.m. Friday in the high school auditorium. The concert will feature the high school band, chorus and orchestra.
The concert will open with the high school band, under the direction of Kevin Styer, playing the classic rock favorite “Proud Mary.” The band’s portion of the program will continue with the standard “Georgia On My Mind,” and a medley of songs by the rock group Chicago, including “Make Me Smile,” “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” “Saturday In The Park,” and “25 Or 6 To 4.”
The chorus will continue the program, performing show tunes and pop hits, including “For Good,” from the musical “Wicked;” a medley from the musical “Newsies,” which includes “Brooklyn’s Here,” “Carrying the Banner,” “Santa Fe,” “King of New York,” “Something to Believe In,” and “Seize the Day;” and the rock hit “Dream On,” as recorded by Aerosmith. The chorus is under the direction of Mary Anne Stump
The orchestra, under the direction of Justin Hollenberg, will follow performing the theme song from the HBO series “Game of Thrones,” the 1975 Led Zepplin hit “Kashmir;” and the theme from the 1960s “Batman” TV series.
The concert will conclude with the combined band, orchestra and chorus performing the American folk classic, “This Land Is Your Land.”
This is the final performance for the high school music department’s spring concert season. Concert admission is free.
