CATAWISSA RR — The resignation of Thomas Reich from the Southern Columbia Area School Board was accepted in a 6-0 vote during Monday night’s board meeting.
Reich has been a member of the board since Jan. 13, 2014 and was to be in office until December 2019. His resignation is effective as of Nov. 6.
No reason was given for his resignation, and a two-year position is open on the board. President Mike Yeager said the board will advertise for the position and conduct public interviews.
Reich, Timothy Vought and Joe Klebon were absent from the meeting.
Charlie Porter informed the board a budget calendar had been reviewed at the finance meeting by business manager Denise Kreisher. A resolution to not raise taxes beyond the index is available for districts, but has been left out of Southern Columbia’s budget calendar, according to Porter, who said the district is not at the point to make that kind of commitment.
Kaye Keller said three new policies were discussed at the policy meeting regarding Pennsylvania School Board Association (PSBA) recommended changes on nondiscrimination practices. The board will vote on Monday to retire two policies regarding sexual harassment that were merged into the new PSBA recommended policies. Policies are available for public view on the district’s website.
The following November invoices were approved: athletic fund for $15,156.06; two construction funds for $655,701.68 and $2,969.55; general fund for $1,173,568.05; and capital reserve fund for $7,019.
Athletic budgetary transfers for November in the amount of $80,000 were approved unanimously.
