SELINSGROVE — Transitions 16th annual auction, “It’s Just an Illusion,” will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m Thursday, May 31, at Susquehanna University’s Evert Dining Room.
The 2018 auction features an extensive live and silent auction, dessert dash, live music and heavy hors d’oeuvres. Live and silent auction items include sailing trips, a hunting excursion, a variety of unique dinner and cocktail parties, a tropical paradise escape, weekend getaways, spa packages and hand crafted jewelry.
The keynote speaker is Kayla Schneider, who will share her personal experience as a survivor and advocate for children. As Miss Keystone 2018, her platform is “Darkness to Light: Promoting awareness and empowering child sexual abuse survivors.”
Schneider was also recently appointed to the Children’s Justice Act Task Force at the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS), which will inform DHS on the investigation of child sexual abuse and human trafficking. She will share her powerful story of determination as a survivor turned prevention advocate during the auction program.
The 2018 recipient of the Pete Macky Advocacy Award will also be announced during the auction. All proceeds from the auction will support Transitions’ mission of creating “safer families and safer communities.”
The auction will directly support violence prevention education throughout Union, Snyder and Northumberland counties, as well as trauma counseling to local victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. One hundred percent of funds raised also directly support survivors with housing assistance, food and supportive services. Last year, Transitions served 2,694 adults and 201 children.
Auction sponsors include Weis Markets, UPMC Health Plan, Geisinger, M&T Bank, Albright Footcare Center LLC, Evangelical Community Hospital, PPL Electric Utilities, Wood-Mode, BB&T, First National Bank, Larson Design Group, Mifflinburg Bank & Trust, Orchard Pump and Supply Co. Inc., Sunbury Motor Company and Swineford National Bank.
