A fleet-footed Shamokin criminal outpaced the law and made good his escape on Friday, March 1, 1895, after a wild chase over hill and dale on borough streets.

Thomas Frum was taken into custody Thursday, Feb. 28, 1895, after a night policeman discovered him attempting to break into the store of Jacob Simmitt, a furniture dealer on Market Street, according to the report in the March 1 issue of The Daily News, Mount Carmel.
