Members of the Locust Gap Fire Co. were lauded by the Mount Carmel Item on Wednesday, June 28, 1911, for their efficient work saving a dwelling from a raging fire.

“They did something seemingly impossible,” said the newspaper, “saved a dwelling from destruction that stood less than three feet away from a stable that burned to the ground. There didn’t seem to be even a remote chance of saving the dwelling, but the brave firemen got to work.”
