Among those taking part in a Freedom Fighters Outdoors rabbit hunt in Northumberland County are, from left, CJ Menapace, of Mount Carmel, Brandon Reitz, of Rough and Ready, Ray Manbeck, of Lavell, beagle handler Mike Morgan, of Paxinos, and BJ Carpentier, of Shamokin.

Freedom Fighters Outdoors gives an entirely new meaning to brothers in arms.

Recently, a group of military veterans and some who are on active duty spent a day of fellowship trudging across farm fields and through woodlots in Northumberland County with shotguns at the ready. In another time at another place, they could have been making their way across sun-baked sands or flooded fields carrying automatic weapons in the service of their country.
