An Irish Valley man was waylaid and robbed by a gang of thugs on Wednesday, March 3, 1897, near Centralia.

The Daily News, Mount Carmel, of March 4, said Henry Fisher “... was attacked by highwaymen on the public road between Centralia and Ashland, shortly before 8 o’clock, and severely beaten and robbed and then allowed to lie by the roadside, more dead than alive.”
