COAL TOWNSHIP — A family of five trudges up the hill behind Our Lady of Hope’s parish hall, at the corner of West Lynn and North Oak streets, toward Dolores Splane, one of the organizers of The Shepherd’s Table.

Splane is sitting by the hall’s back door, waiting for a delivery of frozen turkeys donated by a social club in the area. She recognizes the family.
