Motorists should be on high alert as the whitetail deer breeding season is underway. Expect the number of collisions with deer to skyrocket during this time of year.

Pennsylvania’s archery hunters love it! The rut, or breeding season, of the whitetail deer is underway and, in typical fashion, deer are going crazy, leaving their good sense behind and going wild with the desire to breed.

For hunters, the rut means a good chance not only to see deer that might not typically live in the area you are hunting, but to encounter large mature buck that have thrown caution to the wind as they travel from location to location in search of receptive does. Deer, that the majority of their lives stay in seclusion, are putting on lots of miles — often paying little attention to their surroundings with all their actions focused on one thing and one thing only — continuing the species.
