ELYSBURG — Allen S. Pickering, Jr., 24, Pineview Estates, Elysburg, was slightly injured Friday night at 11:05 p.m. when a vehicle he was operating crashed into a utility pole on W. Center St., Elysburg.
Pickering was treated in Shamokin State General Hospital dispensary for minor contusions and released.
Harold Benning, Ralpho Township chief of police, said Pickering was operating his machine west on W. Center St., near the United Methodist Church, when he lost control. The vehicle damaged the pole, cutting electrical wires. Police notified the Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. The vehicle came to rest facing the opposite direction in which Pickering was traveling.
Pickering was transported to the hospital in the Elysburg ambulance. Elysburg firemen were also called to the scene. The auto was demolished.
Two escape serious injury
SHAMOKIN — Two young people, including a 17-year-old Shamokin girl, escaped with only slight injuries Friday evening when an automobile in which they were traveling went out of control, continued down an embankment and burst into flames.
Treated and released in Shamokin State General Hospital dispensary for abrasions were Charlene Mace, 41 N. Diamond St., Shamokin, a passenger in an automobile, 21, Milton R.D.1.
State police at Shamokin said Bennage was traveling north on Route 61, two miles south of Paxinos, at 6:45 p.m. when he swerved to avoid a southbound vehicle. He lost control of the machine, crossed the highway and continued down an embankment.
