Two tramps from New Jersey were harshly dealt with for thefts in Shamokin during the May 1881 term of Northumberland County court.

The Northumberland County Democrat of Friday, May 6, 1881, said Michael Fitzpatrick and his accomplice, John McKnight, were found guilty of stealing three pair of stockings and two pair of shoes belonging to a Mrs. Hardy, who had left them in the hallway in the offices of Dr. Hollenbach in the borough.
