The joyful shouts of “Yay!” “Wahoo!” and “Hallelujah!” serve as the bookends of sound for the beginning and end of a school year.

The only difference is who’s shouting. On the first, the parents dropping off their kids are the ones making the noise. However, 180 days later, the kids are greeting summer vacation at a decibel level that can cause hearing loss in people two blocks away.
