The pencil markings listing name, date and height on the kitchen doorway of my family’s homestead are painted over. However, Dad’s official measuring ceremonies remain the height of family tradition.

Pictures of our nine-month-old great nephew Beckett standing up (clinging to a piece of furniture) reminded me of the “growing up” rituals that occurred with my younger brothers Phil and Dave and me.
